I was reading my devotions this morning and am realizing more and more how serious and essential it is for every believer of God to start your day off with spending time with Jesus. I have a lovely little daily devotional book called "Streams in the Desert" by Mrs. Charles Cowman. It is awesome...especially for being encouraged through the daily circumstances we face in life. But, here is the reading for March 2:
Exodus 34:2-3
The morning watch is essential. You must not face the day until you have faced God, nor look into the face of others until you have looked into His.
You cannot expect to be victorious, if the day begins only in your own strength. Face the work of every day with the influence of a few thoughtful, quiet moments with your heard and God. Do not meet other people, even those of your own home, until you have first met the great Guest and honored Companion of your life-Jesus Christ.
Meet Him alone. Meet Him regularly. Meet Him with His open Book of counsel before you; and face the regular and the irregular duties of each day with the influence of His personality definitely controlling your every act.
Okay, read the last sentence again...I don't know about you, but I need to be like Jesus. My husband and my son, who I see in the morning first don't want to talk to me without me being with Jesus first. I love what Donna Byrd(a calvary chapel pastors wife)says that she has to tell her husband...I quote, "Honey, (well I call him, "babe")...so "babe, I'm not going to talk with you until I've met with Jesus first".
I like that because if I haven't spent time with Jesus that morning who knows what kind of attitude and disappointment's I can bring to my family. I need to be with Him first thing for myself and for my family's sake and most importantly because He wants to hear from us and He delights in spending time with us. It is essential.
I used to think that whatever time is best for me to spend time with Him is when I can do it....and that it doesn't really matter when just that I do. But, really it does matter. Think about it. He is so good. And, He is just so faithful to meet us at anytime. Thank you Jesus.
